Well, the passing of Dr. Filk has no sway on the government of Canada, nor does the tail end of my cold. The "invitation" says show up, show cause, or start over.

So, today I took my oath today with what little voice I had and now am a Canadian Citizen.

Now all I have to do is get a passport...

And I can even vote in the upcoming elections! STV! STV! STV! (Single Transferable Vote proposition in the next BC election)

I just got off the phone with Victoria General Hospital.

Dr. Filk had his surgery today. He is out of surgery and "doing fine". They even invited me to visit (Which I won't do right now as I'm under the weather a bit).

So if you're local stop by and visit him... if not call or send good thoughts.

Also, ICBC (our gov. insurance monopoly) called today. The other driver has reported to ICBC, and accepted full responsibility. ICBC will be covering help for him during his recovery. Also they have and will be looking over his motorcycle.

ETA: John has called in. He was conscious and coherent (actually sounded better than a couple days ago). Says "I can't see anything, but it hurts. But that was expected. The orthopedic surgeon looked happy about it."

So he is doing as well as can be expected at this point. Again, visits and calls are appreciated.

I had a short conversation with Dr. Filk this evening. Data points are:

1) He is feeling some better... not well, but better than he has.

2) Cough he had is resolved and no longer bothering him.

3) The surgery is still scheduled for tomorrow (barring of course changes in the OR schedule...)

So I finally get to work this morning after having my head shrunk and there are two voice mail messages:

Voice message 1: From Dr. Filk, it's on, they're going to do my foot today...

Voice message 2: From Dr. Filk, it's off. Apparently they are stacked up eight deep in the OR today, so the previously scheduled Friday surgery is the plan again.

Whee...

Well folks, I just got back from my evening visit with Dr. Filk. He continues to recover fairly well considering: broken ribs, fibula, and foot bones.

The big news is that they might be moving up the (let's see if I remember this correctly) "open erection reconstruction" (sic). This is where they open up his foot and try to put the pieces back together. If they do move this up I will let you know...

Also passed on to him the good wishes that have been appearing ...

Provided him with contacts for a local lawyer that specializes in bicycle/car accidents here on the island, and a "mobile optician" to replace his glasses.

For those wanting to know if they can do something: cards, calls, and visits are greatly appreciated. The offers of money are very much appreciated, but right now he does not need anything.

Contact me privately for contact information (address or phone number).

So, I'm in England for two weeks... As a reward for being such a good boy and since my boss knew I wanted to go, he sends me on this two week stint which should be a breeze... report at 9, leave at 4... should be a vacation.

Nope. Well the customer has a problem, so suddenly I'm trying to fix stuff. Easy days turn to 12 hour days. *sigh*. Friday though it looks like we have things under control and I'm off for the weekend.

J has arranged for us to go visit with some rellies in Somerset for the weekend. So we're driving down the highway (or Motorway as they call it here), and we see some signs for Stonehenge. Hmmm, I go, I didn't know that was along here. Maybe we can see it when we come back....

Then we come around the corner, and I look to my right and say... "Holy Crap! It's Stonehenge!" It's about 100 yards from the Motorway...
